]]>The star is in negotiations with producers at CBS Television Studios. The Crazy Rich Asians star is in talks with the network to see her character get a spin-off into a new series. Should a stand-alone Captain Emperor Georgiou series happen at CBS All Access, it would be the fifth overall in CBS All Access’ Star Trek franchise.
As the franchise grows and the Trekverse expands, it seems there’s room for Yeoh to helm her own fleet. The stand-alone series would most likely focus on her character’s adventures in Starfleet’s Section 31 division, the secret organization first introduced on the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine series.
Representatives for CBS All Access and CBS TV Studios declined to comment.

]]>The Star Trek universe is expanding with the streaming service green-lighting the new animated series titled Star Trek: Lower Decks.
CBS All Access has put in a two-season order for a half-hour animated show – the service’s first original animated series helmed by Rick and Morty head writer Mike McMahan. According to the service, the comedy will focus “on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships.”
“Mike won our hearts with his first sentence: ‘I want to do a show about the people who put the yellow cartridge in the food replicator so a banana can come out the other end,’” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman. “His cat’s name is Riker. His son’s name is Sagan. The man is committed. He’s brilliantly funny and knows every inch of every Trek episode, and that’s his secret sauce: he writes with the pure, joyful heart of a true fan. As we broaden the world of Trek to fans of all ages, we’re so excited to include Mike’s extraordinary voice.”
He continued: “As a life-long Trekkie, it’s a surreal and wonderful dream come true to be a part of this new era of Star Trek. While Star Trek: Lower Decks is a half-hour, animated show at its core, it’s undeniably Trek — and I promise not to add an episode at the very end that reveals the whole thing took place in a training program.”
While plot details are being kept under wraps, fans already know that McMahan is well versed in writing for Trek. In 2011 he began a Twitter account where he posted fake plots for Star Trek: The Next Generation.

]]>If you’re disappointed that you have to wait until 2019 for the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, you’ll be pleased to know that a new series of shorts is coming long before then. In fact, the first episode comes out October 4 and the new trailer has just been released.
The series will be made up of four episodes focusing on each Discovery character: Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson), Saru (Doug Jones) and new character Craft (Aldis Hodge).

]]>The legendary actor announced his decision during a surprise appearance at the annual Star Trek convention in Las Vegas. He later shared the good news with the rest of the world in a touching post on Twitter. Stewart admitted he was always proud of being a part of Star Trek, but it never crossed his mind he’ll be able to return to this franchise.
“It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Seeking out new life for him, when I thought that life was over.” wrote the 78-year-old.
Stewart decided to go down this road because he saw how The Next Generation brought people comfort and inspired them to pursue science, exploration, and leadership, just like his character Jean-Luc Picard.
“I feel I’m ready to return to him for the same reason – to research and experience what comforting and reforming light he might shine on these often very dark times. I look forward to working with our brilliant creative team as we endeavor to bring a fresh, unexpected and pertinent story to life once more.” wrote Stewart on Twitter.

]]>CBS estimates the total number of viewers to reach 15 million after a week passes thanks to all delayed viewing.
The TV network hopes Discovery will raise interest for their “All Access.” CBS Interactive president Marc DeBevoise recently spoke about it: “Try it; All Access is free to try and if you don’t think it’s worth the value, we get it. It’s not going to be for everybody. We know some of our customers are going to be cord cutters, some are going to be people who want CBS another way and some just want the premium content we’re offering. Also, it’s not like we’re price gouging here. I think it’s a reasonable price for the value we’re delivering. It’s not just what you get on CBS, it is 10,000 episodes of content plus live TV. We have to show people the value of the service, and I think we will.”
