]]>News of Smith’s casting comes only a few days after Dominic Monaghan joined the franchise. Fans were super-excited about this announcement because Lost actor already worked with director J.J. Abrams in the past… but he’s not the only one! Keri Russell, who rose to prominence after playing the lead in his show Felicity, also recently joined the lineup.
Matt Smith’s casting is just the cherry on the cake since he already has experience going on epic space adventures. He became a household name after playing the eleventh incarnation of The Doctor in the BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who. The international audience knows him as Prince Philip from the Netflix historic drama The Crown. Smith even received an Emmy nom for this role, but we’re yet to find out if he’s going to win.
The regular cast of Star Wars sequel trilogy will reprise their roles in the new movie. Abrams recently stated he’s planning to use previously unreleased footage of the late Carrie Fisher to bring Leia Organa’s story to a satisfying conclusion. The director made this decision after getting a blessing from her daughter Billie Lourd, who also stars in the movie. Star Wars: Episode IX comes to theaters on December 20, 2019.

Almost immediately after the star teased that he’s heading to a galaxy far, far away Lucasfilms and Disney confirmed the casting. This has been a long time gestating as Monaghan’s desire to join the franchise dates back to 2014 when he talked with Abrams about the possibility of joining the cast.
“Give me a lightsaber, I’ll do anything,” Monaghan told DweebCast at the time. “[Abrams] said, ‘We’re putting together a cast of unknowns. We want to follow the ’77 New Hope cast because obviously, Harrison Ford wasn’t well known at that point, Mark Hamill wasn’t and Carrie Fisher wasn’t either.”
“What he said was, ‘We don’t want to fall into that mistake of people going, ‘Oh, it’s that guy from that thing!’ and then you’re completely out of the Star Wars universe,’” he explained.
Monaghan took to social media to tease his participation in the franchise, sharing a post with a phrase from Obi-Wan Kenobi with the caption, “Seems apropos,” after which he gave an official quote to Deadline confirming the news, “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved.”
Star Wars: Episode IX is currently filming in the UK and is set for a December 2019 release.

]]>Star Wars: Episode IX will feature Fisher in her iconic role as Leia Organa thanks to previously unreleased footage of the late actress.
“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” director J.J. Abrams said the announcement. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie [Lourd], we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII,” Abrams explained.
Fisher died unexpectedly in December 2016. Soon after that the network addressed rumors that Fisher would be brought back through CGI.
“We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa. Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.”
Star Wars: Episode IX commences filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1and is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.

]]>Variety reports that the 42-year-old actress is in early talks to join the Star Wars universe.
The actress’ most recent major role was on the TV series The Americans. The series recently ended after six seasons.
While details of the role are scarce, if Russel joins the project is would serve as a Felicity reunion of a sort. Star Wars: Episode IX director and writer JJ Abrams and Russel collaborated in the past on the late ‘90s show Felicity which Abrams co-created and Russel rose to fame. The two also worked together on Mission: Impossible III.
Abrams wasn’t the first choice to helm Star Wars: Episode IX, he signed on after Colin Trevorrow exited the project last September. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy officially announced Abrams’ return behind the camera, saying in a statement, “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.”
Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled to hit theaters December 20, 2019.

]]>Lucasfilm may as well have announced that the Stormtroopers were invading last week if the level of disappointment by Star Wars fans was anything to go by.
Poorer-than-expected box office performance for Solo: A Star Wars Story meant that the production company behind the franchise has decided to put on hold future lone projects — including a spin-off for beloved Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
But, according to reports, there may be life in the Death Star just yet…
The Sun has claimed that Ewan McGregor — who has played Obi-Wan since 1999 — will secretly shoot scenes with Star Wars IX director, J.J. Abrams.
The last time fans got to see the 47-year-old in the role was in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith.
Here’s hoping that the Force is with him.

]]>In a recent interview with KUSC, John Williams, the legendary composer, said that the upcoming installment of the Star Wars franchise will most likely be his last.
After scoring all 8 Star Wars movies and earning 51 Academy Awards nominations, Williams said that while he knows that “J.J. Abrams is preparing one now that I will hopefully do next year for him,” Williams said. “I look forward to it, and we’ll round out a series of nine that will be quite enough for me.”
In his interview, Williams also paid tribute to the late Carrie Fisher.
“I think it possibly might be argued that she did her best work in this last film. I remember so well the scene between Luke and Leia where they meet, and it’s really very deeply touching, I thought. I didn’t know Carrie very well, but I always enjoyed her humor and her wit, and it’s a great loss. She made quite an impression worldwide in her role as Princess Leia.”
The still-untitled Episode IX is scheduled to hit theaters December 20, 2019.

]]>The super hero daama starring Gal Gadot will hit theaters a month and a half earlier than expected on November 1, 2019 and it seems like this change in schedule might have something to do with Star Wars: Episode IX.
The blockbuster movie was originally scheduled to be released on December 20, 2019 but speculations are that the decision to push back the release of LucasFilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX to the same release date was the cause for the rescheduling. Apparently, a Hollywood weekend ain’t enough for two major hit movies.
Patty Jenkins will write, produce and direct the Wonder Woman sequel, and is set to earn somewhere in the $8 million range, according to some reports. The action flick’s budget was $150 million and was wildly successful at the box office, grossing $409 million in the US alone.
E! News contacted Warner Bros. regarding recent speculations that Gadot will not participate if producer Brett Ratner was still attached to the project. The studios called those reports false.
