Alcock has been acting in her home country of Australia since her teenage years, before becoming a household name thanks to House of the Dragon. She played the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of the Game of Thrones spin-off and received a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for her supporting turn.

Alcock emerged as one of the main contenders for the role of DC Universe earlier this month and beat out Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly to win this role. James Gunn confirmed her casting on social media and said she perfectly embodies Kara Zor-El.

“Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for Supergirl,” wrote Gunn on Instagram.

Alcock is expected to headline her own standalone movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but it remains unclear if she’ll make her debut as Supergirl in next year’s Superman: Legacy.

The actor at San-Diego Comic-Con Saturday that his departure from the superhero series is definitely a “bittersweet” moment and promises that the exit will be a gracious one for his character James Olsen.

“It’s a lot harder than I thought it would be, frankly,” Brooks said. “These people are my family and I love them, and it’s been four years of change and the exit’s really gracious. We worked out a really gracious exit and I’m really happy about that.”

Executive producer Sarah Schechter said, “I remember casting this role and casting Jimmy Olsen, and what’s so exciting is because of Mehcad I think there’s a whole generation of people that are going to grow up thinking that he is what Jimmy Olsen looks like, and he is what Jimmy Olsen stands for, and I think that’s something we’re all so proud of.”

“I think it’s so exciting that we get to define who these characters are, and Mehcad just kind of exploded every boundary around who this character was and brought such strength and grace, and so we’re just so proud to have had him on the show,” she added.

Brooks is reportedly leaving Supergirl to focus on new potential projects.

The CW’s president Mark Pedowitz was the one who announced the amazing news. He believes this early renewal of the network’s signature shows gives them a head start on laying out the 2019-2020 season.

“These shows provide a strong foundation for our multiplatform programming strategy, and we look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront,” explained Pedowitz.

The CW recently expanded their primetime schedule to six nights a week, and Pedowitz described this move as unqualified success for the network, their affiliates and advertisers.

The Two and a Half Men alum has joined the cast of Warner Bros. Television superhero drama as the classic villain from the Superman comics. This marks his first TV series role since his work on CBS’ comedy, which aired from 2003 to 2015.

Entertainment Tonight confirms that Cryer has landed a recurring role and that he’ll first appear as Luthor in this season’s 15th episode. 

“We are enormous fans of Jon Cryer, and he was instantly our dream actor to play the iconic role of Lex Luthor,” said Supergirl executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller. “Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

“I think we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to use him this season and he weaves into the story,” Rovner added of the decision to include Superman’s nemesis in the series. “He weaves into the narrative that we’re telling, so I think it’s a good opportunity to have him. And we would welcome him any time.

Fans of the show starring Melissa Benoist shouldn’t get their hopes up. The upcoming movie actually has nothing to do with TV series they know and love.

DC’s upcoming film is in the scripting phase and already has a writer attached. Oren Uziel is working on the first draft, adding another big blockbuster to his resume. His credits include 22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox, but Supergirl isn’t the only exciting project he’s attached to. Uziel is also writing scripts for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog and Mortal Kombat adaptations.

Supergirl hasn’t appeared on the big screen since eponymous 1984 film starring Helen Slater. It was the first English language superhero film to feature a woman in the lead role, but it under-performed on the box office. The success of Wonder Woman proved female-led movies can be a big success, and Supergirl already has an enormous fan following.

Maines was a hero in real life even during her high school days, so she definitely fits the part. She will play Nia Nal aka Dreamer, a soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others.

“It feels fitting to say with great power, comes great responsibility. I’m nervous because I want to do it right. It’s such an important issue right now in our society and in the world. And so it seems only fitting that we have a trans superhero for trans kids to look up to.”

Maines hopes TV viewers will get a better understanding of transgender people thanks to her casting. She believes trans representation exists, but it’s not the right kind of representation and that’s about to change.

“We can be whoever we want, we can do whatever we want, we can be superheroes because in many ways we are.” said the Supergirl actress.
