]]>Following recent controversy over the character of the Kwik-E-Mart owner, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Hank Azaria confirms that he is stepping down as the voice of the character.
The character, which was created in 1990, has recently found itself accused of reinforcing racial stereotypes.
“All we know there is I won’t be doing the voice anymore, unless there’s some way to transition it or something,” Azaria said. “We all made the decision together,” he added, “We all agreed on it. We all feel like it’s the right thing and good about it.”
It is unclear whether the character will be dropped completely from the animated series, which is currently airing its 31st season or transition to a 2020-standards version.

]]>Bob Odenkirk is bringing his legal expertise to The Simpsons. Yep, that’s right, Odenkirk will stay true to his on-screen roots and is set to make a guest voice appearance in season 31 of Fox’s iconic animated series.
Odenkirk will voice a shady lawyer with slippery interpretations of the law in an episode written by series co-executive producer Bill Odenkirk — that’s right, his brother. His character is a mob lawyer, who may even represent Fat Tony.
“He charges by the minute so he speaks… really… slowly,” says Simpsons executive producer Al Jean of the character. “He just wants money for talking to Fat Tony.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, the episode involves sting operation and the Simpsons patriarch. “Homer is the mark because he’s got such a big butt so he’s a good target for pickpocketing,” explains Jean. “Fat Tony is arrested but he didn’t do it — and he has to find out who did do it.”
Hope’s that the episode is to the Odenkirk family’s liking because, “If we don’t get a good review from Mama Odenkirk, then we’re going to be in trouble,” added Jean.
Season 31 of The Simpsons debuts in September.

While The Simpsons saw a big decline in ratings (and arguably quality) since the ’90s and early ’00s, the show remains a big draw for Fox. Besides its legacy value and the iconic status, this animated sitcom still manages to attract 4 to 7 million viewers each episode, which is enough for the network to keep it on air.
Still, the future past 2021 remains unclear for The Simpsons given the fact that its producers 20th Century Fox TV were acquired by Disney in a big acquisition in 2018. The show has also become more expensive to make over the years, and Fox is reportedly barely breaking even on the show. But, let’s worry about that in two years.

]]>The Simpson execs have made a very chilling scheduling decision — next year’s “Treehouse of Horror XXX will be episode 666 of the animated series.
The annual Halloween special episode will coincidentally be the 666th episode that the series has aired over its three-decade run. It’s the longest-running prime-time scripted entertainment series ever, and while it still hasn’t been renewed for its 31st season, we know that The Simpsons will outlive us all!
Executive producer Al Jean tells Entertainment Weekly that Sunday’s “Treehouse of Horror XXIX,” will pull gags from Jurassic Park, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Three Faces of Eve. And in the opening of the episode, “Cthulhu, the ancient creature of the sea, gets into an eating contest with Homer,” Jean also told EW. “I’ll leave you to guess who might win,” he added.
All signs point to a renewal of course — “I’d like to do more seasons, just to ensure that that doesn’t cause the end of the world,” quipped Jean.

]]>The occasion also brought with it an interesting revelation from Simpsons executive producer Al Jean who took to Twitter and shared that that episode was supposed to be a real Simpson crossover.
The animated series offered O.J. Simpson a cameo role in the episode where Homer becomes president of the nuclear power plant’s union and strikes to reinstate dental plans so Lisa can get braces.
“Ironically OJ Simpson airs on fox 25 years to the day after the episode we asked him to be in (pre-murders) and he turned down,” wrote Jean. Responding to a fan question, Jean further noted that “fortunately he passed and we got Dr. Joyce,” played by Dr. Joyce Brothers as herself on the news-show-within-the show Smartline.
Simpson did make an appearance on the animated comedy ten years after “Last Exit to Springfield” aired, in the episode “The Bart of War” but as the voice of Harry Shearer and not as himself.

]]>The post “The Simpsons” Fires Longtime Composer Alf Clausen From The Show After 27 Years appeared first on OMG Check It Out !.
]]>Clausen has scored more than 560 episodes of The Simpsons, starting early in the 1990-91 season. He is considered to be the most-nominated composer in Emmy history, with a total of 30 nominations overall. In addition to his two Emmy wins, the composer also won five Annie Awards, all for his music for the Fox show.
His last complete score for the series was for the season finale of Season 28. The identity of new composer for the Oct. 1 season premiere is not yet confirmed.
The 76-year-old composer addressed his dismissal on Twitter, writing, “Thank you for all of the support…unfortunately, the news is true…”
Variety reports that speculation about Clausen’s removal involves cost-cutting measures, which have been taking place on the show in recent years despite its massive profits for Fox and executive producer James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films.
Clausen’s use of a 35-piece orchestra every week — something that The Simpsons creator Matt Groening insisted upon from the start of the show – usually costs millions of dollars per year. Danny Elfman’s “Simpsons” theme is expected to remain.
The show’s producers released a joint statement to E! News about Clausen’s firing, saying, “We tremendously value Alf Clausen’s contributions to The Simpsons and he will continue to have an ongoing role in the show. We remain committed to the finest in music for The Simpsons, absolutely including orchestral. This is the part where we would make a joke but neither Alf’s work nor the music of The Simpsons is treated as anything but seriously by us.”
The Simpsons season 29 premiers on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
