]]>There’s a lot to celebrate about the enormous box office success of Peele’s latest creation. It’s an original genre movie filmed on a budget of $20 million, with a predominantly African-American cast. It took it only a few days to earn back its budget, exceeding all expectations and shattering several records on the way.
In addition to having the best opening for a live-action original film since Avatar in 2011, Us also delivered the largest debut for an original horror film, and third-largest in general, right behind the It remake from 2017, and last year’s Halloween sequel.
Jim Orr, head of distribution at Universal Pictures, praised Peele’s unique approach to filmmaking that led Us to this incredible box office success.
“Simply put, Jordan Peele is a genius, and we’re thrilled he put his signature touch to the genre. Folks come out of the movie and they have to talk about. It’s really a topic of conversation, how people are interpreting the movie. That’s a great sign for legs,” concluded Orr.

]]>Janet Pierson, director of film at South by Southwest, said they are crazy excited to kick off this event with this movie, from the creative powerhouse that brought us Get Out.
SXSW proved to be an amazing place for putting horror films on the map last year. A Quiet Place went on to become a smash hit after generating a lot of buzz during its opening night at this festival.
We’re hoping South by Southwest does the same for Us, since it seems worthy of our time. It follows a family whose holiday at an idyllic beach house turns into chaos after they’re forced to face four mysterious strangers, who happen to be replicas of themselves. It stars Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and her Black Panther co-star Winston Duke.
Us will premiere on March 8, but the rest of the line-up remains a mystery.

]]>The Academy Award-winning screenwriter is once again directing his own script. He is also producing through his Monkeypaw Productions together with Sean McKittrick and Jason Blum. Monkeypaw’s Ian Cooper will also serve as co-producer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is said to center on two couples, one white and one black. Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong’o are circling to star as one couple while Elisabeth Moss is reported to play part of the other couple.
Duke and Nyong’O recently appeared in the blockbuster movie, Black Panther while Moss is currently starring on season 2 of the Emmy-award winning series The Handmaid’s Tale.
This film is Peele’s first project since winning an Oscar for Get Out. He became the first black writer to win Best Original Screenplay for his directorial debut. In addition to Us, he has signed on as executive producer for a four-part documentary series, Lorena, centered on Lorena Bobbitt for Amazon Prime. He’s also spearheading the revival of The Twilight Zone, alongside Simon Kinberg and Marco Ramirez, ET reports.
