]]>The film’s official synopsis describes it as “a triptych fable” following three characters – a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life, a policeman who is alarmed after his wife who was missing at sea comes back home, and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
The first trailer for Kinds of Kindness doesn’t reveal too much about the film’s plot, but it gives us an idea about its tone and a glimpse of its star-studded cast. In addition to Stone, this film also stars Poor Things’ Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley, plus Hong Chau (The Whale), Joe Alwyn (The Favourite), Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81), and Hunter Schafer (Euphoria).
Lanthimos directed the film and co-wrote the script alongside his frequent collaborator Efthimis Filippou (The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer). Kinds of Kindness will be released on June 21 via Searchlight Pictures.

]]>Save the Green Planet was originally directed by Jang Joon-hwan, and it centers on a disillusioned young man who’s convinced that the world is on the verge of an alien invasion and decides to do everything in his power to save the world.
Joon-hwan was previously in talks to direct the English-language remake of his film before Lanthimos hopped on board. Will Tracy (The Menu) wrote the screenplay for this remake, which will kick off production in the UK and New York later this summer.
Stone will most likely play a supporting role in this project, which marks her latest collaboration with Lanthimos. The Favourite was their first film by each other’s side, and Stone went on to star in his short film Bleat and the black comedy Poor Things, which earned her an Oscar nomination for the best lead actress.
She’ll also appear in Lanthimos’ upcoming anthology film Kinds of Kindness alongside Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, and Hunter Schafer.

Lanthimos eventually took the Golden Lion home following the enormous success of Poor Things and dedicated this victory to the leading lady, Emma Stone.
Poor Things stars Stone as a young woman Bella, who tries to find her own path after being brought back to life by an eccentric scientist (Willem Dafoe). The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, Jerrod Carmichael, Margaret Qualley, and Kathryn Hunter.

]]>The film starring Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, and Olivia Colman marks Lanthimos’ return to the festival after his 2015 screening of Lobster.
The historical drama will kick off the 56th edition of NYFF, which will be held at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on Friday, September 28.
“The Favourite is a lot of things at once, each of them perfectly meshed: a historical epic; a visual feast; a wild, wild ride; a formidable display of the art of acting from Rachel Weisz, Emma Stone, and Olivia Colman, abetted by a brilliant cast; a tour de force from Yorgos Lanthimos. festival director Kent Jones said. “We’re very excited to have it as our opening night film.”
Weisz stars as Sarah Churchill, the Duchess of Marlborough and Stone as servant Abigail Hill, in the factually inspired film. The two clash in the hopes of winning the affections of Queen Anne played by Colman. A press release described the movie as a “reimagining of the costume epic, in which the visual pageantry of court life in 18th-century England becomes not just a lushly appointed backdrop but an ironically heightened counterpoint to the primal conflict unreeling behind closed doors.”
As for being chosen for the opening night, Lanthimos said in a press statement, “It’s a great privilege to be showing The Favourite for the opening night of the New York Film Festival, which is a very special place for the film. I had a wonderful experience screening The Lobster at this distinct festival and I’m looking forward to sharing The Favourite with audiences in New York. I was envisioning this film for many years and eventually had a lot of fun making it.”
