The Lord of the Rings fans spent years waiting for the premiere of the Amazon Prime series The Rings of Power, and their wait is finally over. This series finally premiered on this streaming service last week and attracted a record-breaking 25 million viewers in the first 24 hours.

This makes the premiere of The Rings of Power the biggest in the history of this streaming service. Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke said it’s only fitting to see Tolkien’s iconic stories that ignited the popularity of the fantasy genre, to lead them to this proud moment.

“I am so grateful to the Tolkien Estate—and to our showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, cast and crew—for their tireless collaborative efforts and boundless creative energy,” said Salke in a statement.

The events of The Rings of Power take place thousands of years before the original LOTR trilogy and see a group of characters, both old and new, face the rise of evil in Middle-earth.

The first two episodes of The Rings of Power premiered on September 1, and six more are on the way. Despite generally positive reviews from the critics, the series was met with mixed reactions from the audiences.
