‘Soft Kitty’ is a real song that totally exists

You know the song ‘Soft Kitty’ that Sheldon sings in order to kinda-sorta feel better? Apparently the song dates back to the 1930s, and was written by a nursery school teacher named  by Edith Newlin, possibly in a hopeful attempt to confuse young children into being quiet. Producer Bill Prady mentioned hearing the song from his daugther who picked it up from her preschool teacher after she visited Australia.

Apparently, the show was given permission to use the song by someone who had no right to grant this permission, which dragged Disney, Warner Brothers & CBS into a whole copyright lawsuit mess which you can read more about here.

The pilot had a completely different cast and feel

The pilot was vastly different from how the show turned out. In fact, only Leonard and Sheldon were carried over to the newer version of the show that millions have come to love.
Actually, the show’s original title was Lenny, Penny and Kenny? That name is as terrible as the thought of our beloved heroes being named anything else at all.
It get’s weirder: The pilot episode didn’t have a Penny at all, but instead had a character named Katie played by Amanda Walsh (video below). Ultimately however, the producer’s found that Katie’s toughness wasn’t loved by audiences, and was replaced with Penny.
