Adam West was honored by Los Angeles on Thursday night with a ceremonial lighting of the Bat-signal from City Hall, ET reports.
Thousands of people gathered outside the street to pay tribute to the late actor, who died last Friday at the age of 88.
West became famous for his portrayal of the iconic comic book hero in the action Batman series, which ran from 1966 to 1968. He appeared in 120 episodes and it became his defining role.
In the series, the Bat-signal was used whenever the Police Department of Gotham City in the show needed to call the superhero for help.
In 1966, the legendary star appeared in a feature-length adaptation of the series, Batman: The Movie. After being classified as the caped crusader, the actor had a hard time getting roles but he went on to embrace the unforgettable mark he left on the pop culture scene.
According to DC Comics’ announcement, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Chief Charlie Beck joined “Bat-guests” to light the Bat-signal in honor to West’s portrayal of the “Bright Knight”.
For those who were unable to attend the ceremony, West family encouraged fans to make a donation to either the Adam West Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Camp Rainbow Gold, CNN reports.
