If you spent your childhood cozied up in your bed and reading about the adventures of the Pevensie siblings, we’ve got some good news for you! Netflix just acquired the rights to develop new film and series adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia.
This may not seem like a big deal since Disney already adapted three of beloved novels from this series, but there’s a catch. This is actually the first time in history the rights of all seven books have been held by the same company. Netflix can revive Narnia franchise without worrying they won’t be able to tell the whole story, and that’s exactly what they intend to do.
“C. S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world. Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.
In order to bring this story to life, Netflix will be working with Mark Gordon of Entertainment One, who produced Disney’s Narnia series. He can’t wait to start working on this project and translate the Narnia universe into both stellar feature-length and episodic programming.
