MTV is Making “How High” Sequel Starring Rapper Lil Yachty

Fans have asked for a sequel to 2001’s comedy How High for a long time, and MTV decided to make that happen. But not in a way you would imagine. Instead of bringing back the stars of the original film, Method Man and Redman, the network decided to tap rapper Lil Yachty for the lead role in the project.

Directed by Jesse Dylan, How High focused on two underachieving friends Silas (Method Man) and Jamal (Redman) who discover a magical marijuana that helps them get into Harvard University. The movie received mostly negative reviews from the critics but ended up being a modest commercial success.

According to Variety, filming of How High 2 is already underway in Atlanta, while the movie will premiere on MTV at some point in 2019. Bruce Leddy (The Wedding Weekend) is directing while Shauna Garr and Mike Elliott, producers of the original, are returning in the same role.

Lil Yachty will play the character of Roger, who is the younger brother of one of the leads in the original. According to MTV, How High 2 will see Roger and his friend go “on a magical hash-fueled journey to fund their on-demand munchies delivery start-up.”

Lil Yachty gained prominence when several of his songs became popular on online audio distribution platform SoundCloud in late 2015. After releasing several mixtapes, he presented his debut album Teenage Emotions in the summer of 2017. The follow-up, titled Lil Boat 2, was released in early 2018.

The 21-year-old rapper also has experience in acting, appearing on sitcom Lopez and providing the voice for Green Lantern in 2018’s animated movie Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.
