]]>The post “Avatar: The Way of Water” Becomes the Second-Fastest Movie to Cross $2 Billion appeared first on OMG Check It Out !.
]]>The Way of Water is now the sixth highest-grossing movie of all time, and it’s joining the ranks as Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Avengers: Infinity War as only the sixth movie in history to ever earn more than $2 billion worldwide.
It’s not a shocker to see The Way of Water reach this impressive number since it set many major box office milestones following its release on December 16, 2022. It became the highest-grossing movie of 2022, with the third largest opening during the pandemic era behind Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The Way of Water has grossed $597.9 million domestically so far, but its performance overseas is even more impressive, with $1.426 billion earned outside of North America. It crossed the $2 billion mark in just 37 days, becoming the second-fastest movie to reach the milestone behind Avengers: Endgame.

]]>The Way of Water arrived in theatres on December 16, thirteen years after the original movie—and it was worth waiting for. Despite initial concerns that the audiences won’t show up due to the film’s long delay, this sequel is now on the path to replicating the box office success of the original, which remains the highest-grossing film of all time.
Just 14 days after its release, The Way of Water crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, including $317.1 million domestically. These numbers don’t come as a shocker considering its $441.7 million opening, the third largest in the pandemic era behind Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Avatar: The Way of Water is also the second-highest-grossing film of 2022, and only the third to cross the $1 billion mark following Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion. Cameron previously said that The Way of Water would have to be one of the highest-grossing films in film history just to break even and described it as “the worst business case in movie history.”

]]>After over a decade in the making, Avatar: The Way of Water finally hit the theatres on December 16, earning a worldwide total of $434.5 million over the course of the first weekend, including $134 million domestically.
The Weeknd celebrated its release by dropping a music video for “Nothing is Lost” one day earlier, after it’s been prominently featured in the film’s most recent trailer. According to the press release, this song is meant to “speak to the epic scope, breathtaking action, and thrilling drama of the film itself”.
“Nothing is Lost” is featured in the film’s end credits, and The Weeknd worked closely with composer Simon Franglen to bring it to life. He also brought the Swedish House Mafia on board, and they helped him transform this song about a Na’vi family into a synth-pop ballad.
“Nothing is Lost” is one of the 82 songs eligible for this year’s Academy Award for best original song, and we know if it’s still in competition when Oscar shortlists are announced on December 21.

]]>When it comes to movies, AFI’s list includes everything from the major studio spectacles to box office blockbusters, with the glaring absence of streaming services. They only made it to the TV categories, with such shows as Mo and Severance making the cut.
AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale said they wanted to shine a light on the power of storytelling with this list, adding that it’s particularly meaningful to celebrate the community of artists this year when they have lifted our spirits through the most challenging of times.
AFI Awards usually include some of the biggest Oscar hopefuls and many of the films that made the cut went on to be nominated or even win the Academy Award for best picture – most recently CODA and Nomadland.
AFI Awards winners will pick up their awards at the private luncheon, taking place at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on January 13, 2023.

]]>According to its official synopsis, Avatar: The Way of Water is set over a decade after the events of the first film and it begins to tell the story of the Sully family, “the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprise their roles from the first film, as Jake Sully and Sam Worthington, with Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Stephen Lang, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, and Matt Gerald in supporting roles.
With a production budget of $250 million, Avatar: The Way of Water is one of the most expensive movies ever made, and the new trailer showcases the amazing graphics that have to be seen on the big screen. The film will arrive in the theatres on December 16 after multiple delays, and three more sequels are currently in development.
