]]>The first Bad Boys movie was released in 1995 followed by another in 2003. EW confirms that the spin-off will center on a character from the 2003 film, played Gabrielle Union. Union won’t be the only one to stick with the small-screen rendering of the franchise and will be joined by Jerry Bruckheimer, who served as producer of the two films. Also part of the production are The Blacklist alums Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier.
The series will follow Union, who played sister to Marcus (Martin Lawrence) and love interest to Mike (Will Smith), to Los Angeles where the former DEA agent will be working as an LAPD detective where her partner learns that she might be hiding a dark secret.
This TV addition to the Bad Boys world comes at a time when the future of the third film of the franchise is uncertain as Bad Boys for Life has recently lost its release date.

]]>Now, even one the movie’s starts is questioning whether it will ever be made.
“I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out,” Lawrence tells EW. “Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
This comment by Lawrence comes after the one made by Smith last year, who teased that the third installment of Bad Boys was “very very close,” adding that he’s looking forward to working together with again his lead co-star. However, in the mean time, Smith has been cast to portray the Genie in Disney’s live-action production of Aladdin.
Perhaps there’s still hope for the long-gestating installment to become a reality. Lawrence says he’s there and ready, but that it’s not up to him, it’s the studio’s decision.
Sony has yet to comment.
