A spokeswoman for the BBC has confirmed that Simon Cowell’s dance format, his first project with the network following Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, has confirmed the cancelation. 

In a statement, she said: “Whilst there are no plans for a further series of The Greatest Dancer, we are proud of the show and would like to thank everyone involved in bringing so many memorable moments to BBC One.”

The show saw undiscovered dancers mentored by dance captains Cheryl Tweedy, Oti Mabuse, Matthew Morrison, and Todrick Hall. 

The second season saw a major drop in ratings, drawing a reported 2.8 million viewers for its final month, per Variety.

After a six-year break from acting and hints that he might even give acting up altogether, the Game of Thrones star has joined the cast of Out of Her Mind. The BBC comedy from comedian Sara Pascoe will explore what it takes to survive heartbreak and familial dysfunction. 

“‘Out Of Her Mind’ is a direct expression of my mind. We’ve turned my brain into a theme-park, and everyone’s invited,” said Pascoe. “The cast is INCREDIBLE and I can’t wait for people to see what we’ve made.”

On board are Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as executive producers. The series will be distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

According to Variety, the drama follows a junior diplomat from the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok as he unwittingly walks into the web of crime that leads him to chase down the murderer in the twilight years of the Asian Hippie Trail.

“I am thrilled to play Charles Sobhraj in The Serpent, a role I have dreamed of portraying since I read a book about him when I was 17 years old,” Rahim said. “I couldn’t be happier than to make it under the direction of Tom Shankland and writers Richard Warlow and Toby Finlay.”

“We are delighted to have the brilliant Tahar Rahim play our leading man in The Serpent and for him to unravel Sobhraj’s dark web of deceit, crime and murder in this fascinating true story for BBC One,” said Piers Wenger, controller of BBC drama.

The series will be stream worldwide on Netflix.

BBC and Netflix have revealed the first image of their Dracula reboot from Sherlock creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. 

Playing the role of the famous Count is Danish star Claes Bang. 

The official description of the reimagining of the original Bram Stoker novel reads: “In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.”

Speaking of his role as the reinvented vampire, Claes said: “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Dracula, especially when the script is in the hands of the incredible talents of Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and the team responsible for Sherlock. I’m so excited that I get to dig into this iconic and super-interesting character. Yes, he’s evil, but there’s also so much more to him, he’s charismatic, intelligent, witty and sexy. I realize that there’s a lot to live up to with all the amazing people that have played him over the years, but I feel so privileged to be taking on this incredible character.”

His Dark Materials is set between many parallel worlds, and it follows two children embarking on a magical adventure through these alternative universes. It’s the second attempt to adapt this popular sci-fi series, following The Golden Compass from 2007 which failed to capture the spirit of the first novel.

The two episodes of the upcoming adaptation will be directed by Oscar winner Tom Hooper. Jack Thorne was in charge of writing the screenplay and did everything in his power not to disappoint the fans of the original trilogy.

“You realize that you’ve got a responsibility not to let them down, but you’re really excited about being given the opportunity to play in that amazing, amazing world. The most important thing is being loyal to the books, and trying to tell those books as well as we possibly can,” explained Thorne.

The first season of this promising project will premiere later this year on BBC. Its star-studded cast features the likes of Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson, James McAvoy and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The miniseries adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel is co-produced by Lookout Point and BBC Studios, stars Lily Collins as Fantine, Dominic West as hero Jean Valjean, David Oyelowo as Inspector Javert, and Olivia Colman as Madame Thenardier. Also starring are Ellie Bamber as Cosette, Josh O’Connor as Marius and Erin Kellyman as Eponine.

The trailer features glimpsed of all  of the characters in adaptation of the beloved tale. The miniseries, based on the 1862 novel, is penned by Andrew Davies, who is best known for penning the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Firth. While the most famous adaptation of Les Miserables is the 1985 musical, this version will be a non-musical rendition of the novel.

The “Stay with Me” singer made a surprise appearance at a wedding. This crash appearance was a legit surprise for both brides Bec Baran and Lisa Best as well as the rest of the wedding party.

The surprise appearance was set up by Lisa’s niece and best woman, Katie who had secretly arranged for Smith to perform at the reception. The DJ announced the sweet surprised for the newlyweds as he said “Lisa and Bec, it is time for the surprise of your married lives. With a little bit of help from Lisa’s best woman, we have been keeping a big secret from you. Please welcome Sam Smith!”

The singer stepped into the ballroom where he hugged both brides at once. Then he went on to perform his ballad “Latch.”

This was seen on Smith’s recent TV special Sam Smith at the BBC, where the singer said that for him the experience was super special. “Just being a part of someone’s day like that means the world to me. They’re so in love. It’s just incredible. They’re so in love and it’s so beautiful.”

Both brides couldn’t have been more surprised.

“When he walked through the door, I just thought, ‘Wow, that is actually Sam Smith!’ This does not happen to us,” Best said.

“All of my friends and Bec’s friends and family were really shocked,” she said. “It was just another level.”

The Emmy-winning actress will star as the lead in the streaming service’s series titled Wanderlust. Colette will star as Joy Richards, a therapist reassessing her marriage, essentially looking to keep the romance going with her husband.

Patrick Holland, BBC controller, revealed that new episodes of Alan Partridge are in the early stages. He and Alex Moody, commissioning editor of comedy at BBC two, made the announcement while speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival: “It’s an exciting thing. The BBC is in need and who better? With Brexit and political unrest what broadcaster do we need to make sense of it all, but Partridge?”

We will see three new episodes of The League of Gentlemen later this year in honor of the show’s 20th anniversary since it first aired on BBC Radio.
