The footage was part of a highlight reel for Marvel’s Phase Four movie slate which takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame and it highlights Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.

“We go to escape, to get lost in a story, to feel connected, to share moments we will remember forever,” the video says. 

The Black Panther sequel has been named Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It’s set for a July 8, 2022 release date. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the late Chadwick Boseman’s role of T’Challa will not be recast.

Captain Marvel 2 is titled The Marvels and it’s set for a November 11, 2022 release date. In the film, Larson’s Carol Danvers will be joining forces with Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. Vellani will be introduced in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, which takes place in the same universe and is set to premiere in late 2021.

The sizzle reel also has never-before-seen footage from Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which will be released on September 3, 2021, and Black Widow, which will be released on July 9, 2021.

Many people went to see Captain Marvel because they wanted to see how this brand-new superhero affects the outcome of the upcoming movie Avengers: Endgame. Others showed up because it was the first MCU film that gave them a hero they can relate to, portrayed by Oscar-winner Brie Larson who couldn’t say no to this part.

“When the opportunity came to play Captain Marvel, this symbol of feminism, I saw it as an opportunity to play this empowering role for women. I saw this role and this film as an important step, and I wanted to be a part of it,” explained Larson.

The feature kicks off with a set of characters we’ve never seen before. We’re thrown into the alien world of Hala and Verse (Brie Larson) is training to become a noble Kree warrior. The intro scene is cinematic and enticing, pulling us right into Verse’s unique story. Soon, we learn that Verse is an amnesiac who was once a test pilot on Earth and she must head back there to take down the Skrull Talos.

Compared to Avengers, Thor: Ragnarock or Captain America: Civil War, Captain Marvel is not particularly mind-blowing. If you compare it to the origin movies of Thor and Captain America though, it shapes up to be an impressive entrance into the Marvel world. Brie Larson is fantastic as the eponymous superhero and her introduction has us excited to see what role she will have to play in the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame.

As the first Marvel female superhero, Larson is everything we could possibly want. She is strong, fierce and a little less polished than Wonder Woman. This definitely makes her more relatable and little girls in need of a strong female character need not look further. Larson’s performance was compelling on all accounts and the only thing lacking was more epic kickboxing scenes, because these were great. It also felt like she deserved more of the film’s many funny lines, which Iron Man and Thor received in abundance in their debut movies.

Samuel L. Jackson also gave his usual top class performance and looked surprisingly close to how he looked in Pulp Fiction with the help of Hollywood technology. It was great to learn more about Nick Fury and find out just how he came to inherit that iconic eye-patch. And of course, another character favorite is the heroic cat.

Finally, Captain Marvel shares some valuable messages, including the important lesson of perseverance. No matter how many times she fails, she always gets back up and fights the fight. In this way, Captain Marvel is the superhero we all needed when we were little girls.

Overall, sure, Captain Marvel could have been better but Marvel origin stories are rarely perfect. The movie’s main purpose was to hype us for the Avengers finale by introducing a new powerful character. It definitely succeeded on this account and provided us with the strong female-led stand-alone superhero movie that Marvel was missing.

Nick Fury pages Danvers in the last scene, and there is a belief that she will join Avengers in the sequel and help them beat Thanos in the final battle. But before that, we will get to learn her story as Captain Marvel solo movie hits the theaters on March 8, 2019.

In the cover story for EW, Larson decided to give us a bit of an insight into her character to keep us hyped up until March.

“She can’t help but be herself,” Larson told EW. “She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.”

This first female-led Marvel’s movie will also be directed by the first female director in the MCU, Anna Boden. According to Boden, the character of Carol Danvers’ superhero persona is not perfect, and her uniqueness lies in her humanity.

“This is not a superhero who’s perfect or otherworldly or has some godlike connection,” said Boden while talking about Captain Marvel. “But what makes her special is just how human she is. She’s funny, but doesn’t always tell good jokes. And she can be headstrong and reckless and doesn’t always make the perfect decisions for herself. But at her core, she has so much heart and so much humanity — and all of its messiness.”
