Knives Out 2 will see Rian Johnson writing and directing once again while Daniel Craig is set to return in the role of detective Benoit Blanc. Previously added cast members include Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, and Kathryn Hahn.

The plot of the sequel is being kept under wraps, but moviegoers can expect another murder mystery that will keep them on their toes until the very end. The latest reports say that the movie will begin filming this summer in Greece. 

Even before Knives Out was released, Johnson said that he already has an idea for the sequel and would like to create a franchise centered on detective Blanc. It became clear that this is a real possibility once the movie earned universal acclaim from the critics while earning $311 million at the box office.

Then in March 2021, streaming service giant Netflix announced that they had purchased the rights for not one but two Knives Out sequels. Reportedly, the deal was worth more than $400 million and came with several clauses. This included Daniel Craig staying in the same role and budget of the sequels having the same or bigger budget as the original.

This time it was Stephen Colbert who, during Friday night’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, asked the actor if after No Time to Die he was “done with Bond” to which Craig replied “Yes” and “It’s done.”

This isn’t the first time Craig confirmed that he’s over his 007 role. 

Back in 2015, that’s before he joined the upcoming franchise film No Time to Die, when he was asked about doing another James Bond movie, he said, “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

Craig’s next 007 adventure will be the 25th installment of the British spy series, No Time to Die. He took over the role of Ian Fleming’s suave spy from Pierce Brosnan in 2005, making him the sixth actor to play Bond in the eponymous franchise. 

No Time to Die is set to hit theaters on April 8, 2020.

The 51-year-old actor will have to have ankle surgery following an injury he had on set while sprinting.

“He was sprinting during filming when he slipped and fell quite awkwardly,” a source told the Sun. “He was in quite a lot of pain and was complaining about his ankle.”

News of the injury, the surgery, and the unchanged premiere date was announced via the franchise’s official Twitter Wednesday.

“Daniel Craig will be undergoing minor ankle surgery resulting from an injury sustained during filming in Jamaica,” the official announcement read. “Production will continue whilst Craig is rehabilitating for two weeks post-surgery. The film remains on track for the same release date in April 2020.”

Social media has been buzzing with fans guessing who will take over the lead in the Bond franchise after Daniel Craig’s expected departure. While some suggested various actors to take over the iconic character, like Idris Elba, some thought it was time a woman starred as the suave spy.

But the idea of a gender switch is off the table according to producer Barbara Broccoli, who told the Guardian that the change the production will go in that creative direction is very unlikely. 

“Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male,” she told the outlet. “And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women,” she added. “Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.” Finally, she added that the Bond character had in fact “transformed with the times”. “I’ve tried to do my part, and I think particularly with the Daniel [Craig] films, they’ve become much more current in terms of the way women are viewed.”

The next installment helmed by Fukunaga and starring Craig is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2020.
