Divorce follows Frances and Robert, played by Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church, going through a long, drawn-out divorce. It was Parker’s first lead TV role since Sex and the City, and she received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.

Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming, announced the cancellation of the show. She also praised Parker’s “unique ability to showcase the complexities of personal relationships with such empathy and humor” and expressed hope they’ll team up again in a nearby future.

“With Divorce, she took our audiences through the keyhole and into the lives of a modern day couple dealing with the fallout of splitting up. As we end with the 3rd and final season of the show, we look forward to our next endeavor with Sarah Jessica and Pretty Matches,” said Gravitt in a press release.

The premium cabler dropped the clip Saturday ahead of its upcoming third season premiere. 

The one-minute clip features on-screen exes Frances (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Robert (Thomas Haden Church) during a not-so-upbeat family meeting.

Season Three will see Frances (Parker) and Robert (Church) as they “encounter surprises that spin their post-divorce lives in unexpected directions,” according to the official logline.

Other cast members include Molly Shannon, Becki Newton, Talia Balsam, Sterling Jerins and Charlie Kilgore and Tracy Letts. James Leisure will also appear this season as Frances’ new love interest.

With the season’s premiere date set for July 1, the third season of the comedy will return a full 16 months after its Season 2 finale aired.

Multiple sources report that the 75-year-old actor and his 62-year-old wife, have decided to go their separate ways after more than 20 years together.

This isn’t De Niro and Hightower’s first separation. In 1999 De Niro filed for divorce but eventually, the couple decided to reignite their marriage rather than sign the divorce papers. In 2004 they renewed their vows at their New York State property in front of family, friends and a crowd of A-listers.

A source close to the couple told PEOPLE that the two have separated. “Sometimes things don’t work out the way you hope or want them to,” the source added. According to Page Six, who was the first to break the news, De Niro has moved out of the family home and is no longer living with his wife and daughter.

The couple met in London in the early ‘90s and after dating for a decade they married. They share two children together: 20-year-old son Elliott and 7-year-old daughter Helen. De Niro has four other children from previous relationships.

HBO has renewed the series for a six-episode third season — which is considerably less in comparison to the first and second season which tallied ten and eight episodes respectively. 

News of a renewal comes alongside some changes including the promotion of co-executive producer Liz Tuccillo to showrunner and executive producer and recurring star Becki Newton, who has been bumped to series regular. Thomas Haden Church, Molly Shannon, Talia Balsam, Tracy Letts, Sterling Jerins and Charlie Kilgore round out the cast.
