The news was confirmed Wednesday straight from HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys during the summer Television Critics Association press tour.

“I can finally, finally confirm we are greenlit on the Deadwood movie,” Bloys said. “It will shoot in October.” The wrap-up movie has been rumored for years after the network’s prematurely canceled the Western series.

The exec also talked about the production’s “logistical nightmare,” that is assembling the cast back together, including star Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, and Molly Parker. 

The series ran from 2004 to 2006 took place in 1870s Deadwood, South Dakota, and followed the community’s growth from a camp to a town.

The Downton Abbey cast is reuniting for a BBC movie. The highly anticipated feature is actually happening after officially receiving the green light. 

The entire cast is expected to return for the big-screen adaptation with Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and more set to reprise their original roles.

The news was confirmed via the official Downton Abbey Twitter account on Friday, writing, “Welcome back to Downton! We’re thrilled to announce that #DowntonAbbey is coming to the big screen. Film production begins this summer.”

The feature will be directed by Brian Percival from a script penned by Julian Fellowes who will also serve as executive producer alongside Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge and Nigel Marchant. 

“When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production,” Neame said in a statement. “Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen.”

Downton Abbey ran for six years on ITV in the UK and PBS in the US.

After it was reported that Joaquin Phoenix was in talks to play Batman’s arch-nemesis, Variety now reports that the deal has been finalized and the studio gave a green light and a September start date for the production. 

The Joker origin movie is helmed by director Todd Phillips who also co-wrote the script alongside Scott Silver. The film has been described by the studio as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.” Sources also say the story will take place in the ’80s

Interestingly there’s another Joker project happening currently, starring Jared Leto who portrayed the criminal mastermind in Suicide Squad. Leto has been tapped to be back for the sequel, as well as, a standalone Joker movie, separate from Phoenix’s. 

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the project’s budget is in the $55 million range and could be ready for release as early as late 2019.

Fox is set to portray Al Simmons, an agent whose should was sent to hell after he was betrayed and murdered. He makes a deal with a demon who allows him to return earth where he roams as a spawn of Hell. Reiner will play detective “Twitch” Williams, who becomes an unlikely ally to Foxx’s antihero. 

This isn’t the first time the comic has been adapted for the big screen. In 1997 it was made into a film starring Michael Jai White. 

The script is penned by McFarlane himself with Blumhouse’s Jason Blum producing.

Production is set to start this fall.

Actress Reese Witherspoon may be back as one of her most beloved roles as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 3. 

Deadline reports that the 42-year-old actress is in talks to reprise the iconic role in a third installment of the franchise. MGM is also in negotiations with the actress to produce the film, through her Hello Sunshine banner, alongside Marc Platt and Adam Siegel. It looks like the entire team is on board as Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith, who adapted the novel for the original film, are also in final talks to pen the script for the upcoming movie. 

The original premiered in 2001 and followed Elle the sorority queen on her quest to become a lawyer. In the 2003 sequel, the now fashionable attorney is in DC, to help a congresswoman pass a bill to ban animal testing.

Witherspoon has toyed with the idea of reprising her Legally Blonde role, most recently pitching possible plot lines with host James Corden on The Late Late Show. 

“I think it would be kind of cool to see her 15 years later. Like, what’s she doing now? What do you think? I don’t know. But I need a good idea,” Witherspoon said before Corden offered up an idea of his own: that Elle Woods becomes the first female president of the United States.

“She could, yeah,” Witherspoon responded. “She could be a Supreme Court Justice, or she could be a really great, powerful attorney… or she could be in prison!”

“She could be anything,” she added. “I don’t know!”

In 2016 she told E! News “We’ve thought about it. I need somebody really clever to come up with a great idea and we’ll do it. I do think it’s a good time to do it—I think women need that kind of positivity right now.”

Legally Blonde grossed $141 million worldwide on an $18 million budget. The sequel grossed $124 million on a $45 million budget.

Variety reports that Bradley Cooper is in talks to star in Clint Eastwood’s next film, The Mule. The two worked together on Eastwood’s American Sniper, the war drama helmed by Cooper as the lead. This role earned Cooper and Eastwood Oscar-nominations for best actor and best picture respectively. 

The Mule will not only see Eastwood behind the camera, as he plans to also star in it, making it the first acting gig since 2012 for the Hollywood icon. 

The Mule is based on a 2014 New York Times Magazine feature by Sam Dolnick and follows Earl Stone (Eastwood), a man in his 80s who is broke and alone when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive. But unbeknownst to Earl, he’s signed on as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel. Cooper will play DEA agent Colin Bates out to get Earl. 

Eastwood will produce via his Malpaso banner, along with Imperative’s Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas. Ruben Fleischer, David Bernad, and Todd Hoffman are exec producing.

Cooper is currently helming the remake of A Star Is Born which he directs and also stars in alongside Lady Gaga. He is also set to star and direct a Leonard Bernstein biopic co-produced by himself and Steven Spielberg.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the 62-year-old actor will helm a new World War II naval war movie titled Destroyer.This will be the first time the actor returns to the director’s chair after receiving an Oscar nomination for Hacksaw Ridge.

The film is based on the John Wukovits book Hell From the Heavens: The Epic Story of the USS Laffey and World War II’s Greatest Kamikaze Attack. When writing the book, Wukovitz used personal interviews and memoirs of crew members who had served on the ship that withstood multiple kamikaze attacks and was therefore nicknamed “The Ship That Would Not Die.”

The script is penned by Rosalind Ross and will center on the Battle of Okinawa and medic Desmond Doss. Destroyer is being produced at Gianni Nunnari’s Hollywood Gang Productions.
