This cancelation comes as quite a shocker because it comes only a day after the titular star Gal Gadot shared a hopeful tweet about the future of the Wonder Woman franchise. She concluded her tweet by writing, “can’t wait to share her next chapter with you”, but it quickly turned out we won’t be getting a new chapter of Diana Prince’s story.

This decision caused so much confusion that Gunn couldn’t help but react, saying he and Safran were aware they were coming into a fractious environment when they agreed to take over DC Studios.

“We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives,” wrote Gunn on Twitter.

The first teaser was unveiled by none other than Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot. The under-30 second teaser was released a day before the full trailer was expected to premiere at Brazil’s Comic-Con Experience event in São Paulo, Brazil.

The footage features Israeli actress Gadot reprises her role as the Amazonian princess in the sequel to the hit 2017 DC film, both directed by Patty Jenkins. 

“Nothing good is born from lies and greatness is not what you think,” Wonder Woman says in the trailer. 

Wonder Woman 1984 also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as Antiope and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta. Newcomers include Pedro Pascal as Max Lord and Kristen Wiig as the Cheetah.

Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters on June 5, 2020.

Filming has wrapped on the second installment of Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman franchise and Gadot has treated fans with three BTS pictures of the two of them. The actress took to Instagram Sunday and shared a heartfelt message to her co-stars and crew.

“We did it. Again!!. And as much as the first time shooting Wonder Woman was amazing, this time was even more unique and special.. We shot in 4 very different locations in 3 countries, and I’m so soooo proud of the almost 1000 crew members who came to set every day, giving everything they have into our movie.”

She continued: “Couldn’t ask for better partners on this.. I’m so lucky to have the one and only Patty Jenkins, as my director. She always has our backs, she gives us the wings to dare, and everyday she helped us find the most creative version of ourselves .. I am so grateful to call her my friend. And to our AMAZINGly talented cast who made every day enjoyable and fun, thank you!”

Fans could not contain their excitement for the reveal of Kristen Wiig’s character Barbara Minerva aka Cheetah. Jenkins shared a wide shot that shows Wiig’s curly-haired character, in her civilian form surrounded by statues of lions, giraffes, and antelope, a somewhat foretelling decor as for the shape-shifting archaeologist.

The official stills from the film’s production were tweeted by director Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot which means that filming of the sequel is officially underway. The official title was also revealed: Wonder Woman 1984. 

The first image is of female-lead Gal Gadot standing in front of a bank of TVs full of retro pop culture. While this image is not very revealing of the plot, the second image is quite a shocker as it reveals Diana Prince’s love interest, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) the American spy rescued by Prince, alive and well. 

For those who don’t remember, Trevor sacrificed himself in the first Wonder Woman movie.

So how did Trevor make it to the sequel set almost 70 years later in 1984 and in the US? Let’s just say that the DC Comics film universe we have seen stranger feats.

According to Warner Bros., filming will take place in Washington DC, Alexandria, Virginia, the UK, Spain, and the Canary Islands.

Wonder Woman was released in 2017 and grossed a whopping $822 million at the box office. Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to be released November 1, 2019.

Looks like the newcomer is following a similar path as her Wonder Woman heroine Diana Prince, who fought for equality and for the less empowered.

Gadot was presented with a special honor at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday. Introduced by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, Gadot received the #SeeHer Award, honoring her for challenging female stereotypes on screen and off.

The Association of National Advertisers stands behind this award that made its debut just last year with actress Viola Davies being the honoree in its inaugural year.

In her powerful speech, Gadot drew a parallel between the role of her superhero character, to that of an actor.

“As artists, and as filmmakers, I believe it’s not only our job to entertain, but our duty to inspire and educate for love and respect,” she said. “In the past weeks and months, we’ve been witnessing a movement in our industry and society, and I want to share this award with all the women and men who stand for what’s right: Standing for those who can’t stand or speak for themselves. My promise and commitment to all of you is that I will never be silenced, and we will continue to band together to make strides, uniting for equality.”

Gadot also said that she has always wanted to play a role of a strong and independent female, just like the role she portrayed in Wonder Woman. “She’s full of heart, strength, compassion, and forgiveness. She sees wrong that must be made right. She takes action when everyone around her is idle. She commands the attention of the world, and in doing so, she sets a positive example for humanity.”

Godot also said that despite the progress made with the number of female-led movies and movies directed by female director growing, “there’s still a long way to go.”

Both Gadot and Jenkins are signed on for the Wonder Woman sequel.

Topping at number one was the latest installment of the Star Wars franchise Star Wars: The Last Jedi with whopping $533.1 million at the box office. The second largest grossing film was Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast and closing the top three was DC Comics’ Wonder Woman with $504 and 412.6 million respectively.

According to box-office, female led films were top three was back in 1958 with South Pacific, Auntie Mame, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

The Last Jedi was dubbed the most feminist of the Star Wars franchise yet, with strong female roles including trainee Jedi Rey (Daisy Ridley) and the late Carrie Fisher in her final performance as Princess made General, Leia.

The live-action remake of the 1991 Disney hit starred Emma Watson as Bell. While a Disney princess, she takes charge of her destiny and refuses to conform to social dictates and in essence turning a beast into a love stricken puppy.

Finally, Wonder Woman doubly succeeded as a female-led film. Starring newcomer Gal Gadot who portrayed a role model heroine, Wonder Woman is also the highest-grossing live-action movie ever directed by a woman, Patty Jenkins.

Hopefully powerful portrayals of female characters isn’t a fleeting moment but rather a new Hollywood zeitgeist.

The super hero daama starring Gal Gadot will hit theaters a month and a half earlier than expected on November 1, 2019 and it seems like this change in schedule might have something to do with Star Wars: Episode IX. 

The blockbuster movie was originally scheduled to be released on December 20, 2019 but speculations are that the decision to push back the release of LucasFilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX to the same release date was the cause for the rescheduling. Apparently, a Hollywood weekend ain’t enough for two major hit movies.

Patty Jenkins will write, produce and direct the Wonder Woman sequel, and is set to earn somewhere in the $8 million range, according to some reports. The action flick’s budget was $150 million and was wildly successful at the box office, grossing $409 million in the US alone.

E! News contacted Warner Bros. regarding recent speculations that Gadot will not participate if producer Brett Ratner was still attached to the project. The studios called those reports false.

“James Cameron’s inability to understand what Wonder Woman is, or stands for, to woman all over the world is unsurprising as, though he is a great filmmaker, he is not a woman,” Jenkins wrote. “Strong women are great. His praise of my film Monster, and our portrayal of a strong yet damaged woman was appreciated. But if women have to always be hard, tough and troubled to be strong, and we aren’t free to be multidimensional or celebrate an icon of women everywhere because she is attractive and loving, then we haven’t come very far have we.”

She added, “I believe women can and should be everything just like male lead characters should be. There is no right and wrong kind of powerful woman. And the massive female audience who made the film a hit it is, can surely choose and judge their own icons of progress.”

Cameron expressed that Hollywood’s “self-congratulatory back-patting” over Wonder Woman “has been so misguided,” during a recent interview with The Guardian.

“I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards,” he explained, comparing the heroine to his Terminator’s female character Sarah Connor.

“Sarah Connor was not a beauty icon,” he shared. “She was strong, she was troubled, she was a terrible mother, and she earned the respect of the audience through pure grit. And to me, [the benefit of characters like Sarah] is so obvious. I mean, half the audience is female!”

According to ET, Jenkins is presently in negotiations to direct the sequel of Wonder Woman, which is set to release on Dec. 13, 2019. Since the release of the DC Comics and Warner Bros. movie in June, the blockbuster has been breaking records and is now the highest grossing live-action film ever directed by a woman.

She added, “I believe women can and should be everything just like male lead characters should be. There is no right and wrong kind of powerful woman. And the massive female audience who made the film a hit it is, can surely choose and judge their own icons of progress.”

Cameron expressed that Hollywood’s “self-congratulatory back-patting” over Wonder Woman “has been so misguided,” during a recent interview with The Guardian.

“I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards,” he explained, comparing the heroine to his Terminator’s female character Sarah Connor.

“Sarah Connor was not a beauty icon,” he shared. “She was strong, she was troubled, she was a terrible mother, and she earned the respect of the audience through pure grit. And to me, [the benefit of characters like Sarah] is so obvious. I mean, half the audience is female!”

According to ET, Jenkins is presently in negotiations to direct the sequel of Wonder Woman, which is set to release on Dec. 13, 2019. Since the release of the DC Comics and Warner Bros. movie in June, the blockbuster has been breaking records and is now the highest grossing live-action film ever directed by a woman.

“Thanks to ALL of you for making #WonderWoman a success,” Gal Gadot wrote on Instagram. “Wonder Woman has the best fans in the world.”
