38-year-old Rebel Wilson has been tapped to star in a new Australian drama series titled Les Norton. The ten-part period drama is based on Robert G. Barrett’s novels, for Australian public broadcaster ABC.

Wilson will star opposite Alexander Bertrand who will play the titular lead. Set in 1985, the series will follow the exploits of Les Norton, a man from outback Queensland. On the run from a troubled past, he blows into Sydney where he lands a job as a bouncer at a notorious illegal casino in Kings Cross. He soon finds himself seduced by the city’s illicit charms and dragged into a web of underground criminality.

“Les Norton is an affable character that has proven popular with audiences in the best-selling book series. What excites me about this TV adaptation is that the creative team have included a slew of new female roles to go head on with the male characters established in the books,” Screen Australia’s Sally Caplan said.

Les Norton was created by Morgan O’Neil. It was penned by writers Christopher Lee, Samantha Winston, Shanti Gudeon, Malcolm Know and Jessica Tuckwell.

Cats is based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical of the same name and follows a tribe of cats called the Jellicles. Wilson will play old Gumbie cat Jennyanydots, who spends her days seeking out the warm and sunny spots where she can sit and sleep for hours.

Even before the news of her casting was announced, Cats still had one of the most impressive ensembles in recent memory. Its impressive cast includes Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, and Idris Elba.

Rebel Wilson is no newcomer to the world of movie musicals. She got her big break thanks to playing Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect franchise. This role opened many doors for the Australian actress, who’s set to appear in three promising projects next year, including Taika Waititi’s war satire Jojo Rabbit.

This comes after Snow recently told Extra that she and the rest of the crew would be open to doing Pitch Perfect 4.

“I think all of us would be game for it,” she said. “We have the best time filming those movies. We made some of our best friends during that franchise… part of us knows that chapter might be closed and is okay with that, but we are still incredibly close and we will probably make them — if they want us to — until the end of time.”

First Pitch Perfect movie was released in 2012, revolving around an all-female a cappella group The Barden Bellas who is trying to win the collegiate a cappella competition. The film ended up becoming a critical and commercial hit, with two sequels being released in 2015 and 2017. Although the sequels did not receive great reviews, the film series gained a cult following and earned $565 million at the box office.

In the newly released trailer for the upcoming third installment of the Pitch Perfect franchise, the Bellas are post-graduation from Barden University. However, they realize that life after college isn’t working our quite as they thought it would. With their lives not headed in the direction intended, they are a little more than off-key.

In a last attempt to get back on track they reunite to head off on a tour in Europe. Amongst the cute costumes, riff-offs, and a bunch of a-cappella renditions of pop songs, Beca (Anna Kendrick) gets an offer for a solo deal…

Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Hailee Steinfeld, and Elizabeth Banks reprise their roles in the franchise, as well as some new additions to the cast as John Lithgow and Ruby Rose join the singsong showdown.
