]]>Finally, after confirming a premiere date, ABC’s firefighter spin off has a name.
After ABC boss Channing Dugney said an announcement about the show’s title is close, it was announced by the network Thursday.
The ball that got the spinoff train rolling was Dr. Ben Warren’s (Jason George) desire to hang up his scrubs and put on a firehouse uniform. The series will follow a group of firefighters at Seattle Fire Station 19. Show runner Stacy McKee spoke with EW about what makes Station 19’s heroic first responders different from Grey’s team of doctors and surgeons.
“The show is different from Grey’s because our hero characters aren’t just saving lives, they’re also putting their own lives at risk in the process. The very nature of their jobs will put these characters out into the streets, on location, immersed in their patients’ lives in a way that’s a lot more visceral and a little bit more messy. It isn’t the perfectly draped body in an OR.”
The series stars Jaina Lee Ortiz as Andy Herrera, flagship star Jason George as Ben Warren, Grey Damon as Jack Gibson, Barrett Doss as Victoria Hughes, Alberto Frezza as Ryan Tanner, Jay Hayden as Travis Montgomery, Okieriete Onaodowan as Dean Miller, Danielle Savre as Maya Bishop, and Miguel Sandoval as Captain Pruitt Herrera.
Station 19 premieres March 22.
