DeGeneres has been hosting the series since 2003, meaning the show will have run for 19 seasons when it ends. The long-running daytime talk show inspired a number of spinoffs including Ellen’s Game of Games, The Masked Dancer, Family Game Fight, and Ellen’s Greatest Night of Giveaways.

“I was going to stop after season 16. That was going to be my last season and they wanted to sign for four more years and I said I’d sign for maybe for one. They were saying there was no way to sign for one. ‘We can’t do that with the affiliates and the stations need more of a commitment.’ So, we [settled] on three more years and I knew that would be my last. That was the plan all along,” DeGeneres said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged — and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” she told the news outlet.

DeGeneres’ time in daytime was a significant step for LGBTQ representation. She launched the show five years after coming out on the cover of Time magazine. But over the past few years, the show’s ratings have dropped significantly.

Multiple outlets confirm that The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as well as The Wendy Williams Show and Rachael Ray Show, are set to with new episodes. 

The shows have been on hiatus following the decision to shut down production over the ongoing pandemic. It is reported that the daytime hosts will film from home, as they practice self-quarantining. 

“Since going into quarantine two weeks ago, I’ve been doing my show at home every day. But only for Portia. Starting Monday, you’ll be able to see it too, and I can’t wait,” said DeGeneres.

“I may not be in my purple chair, and it may not look the same but I’m very excited to get back to my Wendy Watchers … there’s so much uncertainty in all of our worlds right now and we need each other!” Williams said.

“This is a weird time, right? I can’t say there’s a silver lining; that’s just a wild exaggeration,” Ray said. “But there are found moments every day, and this is our found moment, for myself, John, and [our dog] Isaboo, that we get to share our home and some time with our viewers.”

The comedienne and host announced the exciting news to her audience and fans Wednesday. 

“From the beginning I said this show was going to be like a relationship,” DeGeneres said. “We’ve been through the good, the bad, the Fifty Shades of Grey phase. It’s been a lot of fun and 16 years is a pretty good run. Sometimes in a relationship, you need to take a break. But I don’t. You’re stuck with me. I just signed for three more years.”

The show is currently in its 16th season. Extended for three more years means that it will continue its run through 2022.

Ellen DeGeneres stages a surprise Friends reunion on Tuesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. 

Courtney Cox, who played Monica Gellar on the series, came to Ellen to promote her new Facebook Watch docuseries about pregnancy,  Nine Months with Courteney Cox.

DeGeneres decided to help Cox get more exposure for her new series with photoshoot on a fake Central Perk set so Cox would have something to post on Instagram (though she hasn’t joined yet but is thinking about seriously!). And in walks Lisa Kudrow!

“I wanted to be there for you,” Kudrow told a surprised Cox.

“You’re here!” Cox said. “This is a shock.”

“I think of how sweet Keanu Reeves was and how handsome he was,” Bullock told DeGeneres when asked to reminisce the 1994’s hit. “It was hard for me to, like, really be serious. He would look at me, and I would, like, [nervous laughter].”

The fact that Reeves was a perfect gentleman and good acting partner just made it worse for her to stay focused.

“My dress sort of kept flying up…So, I said, ‘Whatever you do, just keep my dress down,'” – she recalled. “The whole stunt, he just made sure my dress [was kept down]….It was very sweet.”

Unfortunately, despite this, Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves never dated in real life.

“Never dated him. There’s just something about me that I guess he didn’t like!” – Bullock added jokingly.

Speed wasn’t the only movie Bullock and Reeves filmed, also collaborating on 2004’s The Lake House.

The 60-year-old daytime TV host is having mixed feelings about her talk show. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Ellen revealed that she thought twice before extending her contract through to 2020. Being such a major decision, the comedian got candid about consulting her brother and wife Portia De Rossi along the way.

“She gets mad when my brother tells me I can’t stop,” DeGeneres says of her wife, who said in return, “I just think she’s such a brilliant actress and standup that it doesn’t have to be this talk show for her creativity. There are other things she could tackle.” No matter what happens, de Rossi explained, “I don’t see the end of her show as her career ending.”

One of the issues is that Ellen feels that the show isn’t representative of her true self.

“The talk show is me, but I’m also playing a character of a talk-show host,” she said. “There’s a tiny, tiny bit of difference.” “She’s just a bit more complicated than she appears on the show,” de Rossi told the outlet. “There’s more range of emotion.”

This isn’t the first time Ellen opened up about what the next phase of there career would look like. Back in January, she told Today co-host Hoda Kotb was a guest on her talk show, “I don’t know [what I’m looking forward to],” she said. “That’s why I’m going to keep doing this until I figure that out.”

The 25-year-old singer took the stage on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday for the first televised performance of her new single, “Thank U, Next.”

The performance, inspired by the hit 1996 film The First Wives Club, was teased by the singer on Instagram. Grande shared a picture of herself with fellow singers Tayla Parx and Victoria Monet. clad in all white sultry ensembles. It was captioned, “First wives club 2018… @theellenshow tomorrow i love you @victoriamonet @taylaparx… thank u, next.”

The single features lines about four of her ex-boyfriends including former fiance, Pete Davidson, the late Mac Miller, Big Sean, and Ricky Alvarez. But the single is also a tribute to the singer’s journey as a woman, which the relationships were part of.

At some point in her performance, the singer almost fell over when stepping down from a chair in heeled boots and exclaimed, “Oh my god!” which was followed by giggles. But the performance was also emotional for the 25-year-old, who sang about her parents:

“One day I’ll walk down the aisle. Holding hands with my mama,” she sang holding back tears. “I’ll be thanking my dad. ‘Cause she grew from the drama.”

All season long, I partnered with Cheerios to encourage people to do ‘One Million Acts of Good’ and if you’re here in my audience, you helped us reach that goal.”

A comedian at heart, DeGeneres did have some fun with her audience of do-gooders at first, telling them that a “special surprise gift” is waiting for those with a Cheerios box under their seat. As it happened, everyone in the audience had one.

“You’re all gonna share this gift. It’s the biggest gift I have ever given anybody ever, and I hope you continue to pay it forward and share all the good. Hold on to your Cheerios because all of you are splitting $1 million!”

“Earlier this week, I got a tweet from the people at Netflix and I have good news and bad news,” DeGeneres wrote, “The bad news is they wouldn’t tell me what happened to Barb on Stranger Things, but the good news is they asked if I was interested in doing a stand-up special. I said I’m going to have to think about it and then 30 seconds later I said yes. Exciting!”

The 59-year-old comedian played a show at the Largo at the Coronet in L.A. on Tuesday. The show was filmed for the anticipated show. The venue shared some special moments of the filming on social media, posting photos on Instagram pictures of Ellen rocking it alongside the caption:
