]]>The Roses will center on a seemingly picture-perfect couple Theo (Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Colman), who have successful careers and great kids. When Theo’s professional dreams come crashing down, the façade of their perfect family is ruined, igniting a tinderbox of competition and resentment.
Warren Adler’s novel The War of the Roses, which previously inspired the 1989 adaptation starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, served as inspiration for Roach’s new adaptation. Tony McNamara (Poor Things) developed the script.
Cumberbatch produces the film under his SunnyMarch banner, and so does Colman via South of the River with Ed Sinclair and Tom Carver.
“We have been cooking this up with our friends at SunnyMarch for some time, and it was been an absolute thrill to see it spring into life under Jay’s passionate and thoughtful guidance. He and Tony are a match made in cinematic comedy heaven,” reads South of the River’s official statement.
Colman is fresh off starring in Wonka and TV shows Great Expectations and Secret Invasion, while Cumberbatch appeared in a series of Wes Anderson’s short films based on Roald Dahl’s stories, including the Oscar-winning The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

]]>No Way Home managed to earn $1.69 billion at the worldwide box office, passing Jurassic World with $1.67 billion and The Lion King with $1.66 billion to secure its latest record. It’s highly unlikely it will soar any higher because the top five films—Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Avengers: Infinity War—all crossed the $2 billion mark.
We still wouldn’t count No Way Home out since it’s been breaking one box office after another since its release in mid-December. Needless to say, it’s the highest-grossing pandemic-era film, and the first to gross over $1 billion since COVID-19 started. It’s also the fourth-highest-grossing film in the United States and Canada, with $721 million at the domestic box office so far.
No Way Home explores the aftermath of Spider-Man: Far From Home, where Peter Parker’s secret identity was revealed to the world. He asks Doctor Strange to help him reverse the past, but his botched spell ends up opening up the multiverse and inviting old villains into Peter’s world to dire consequences.

]]>The Marin Scorcese-produced thriller has a new official trailer that lets us glimpse into the dramatic 19th century battle over electricity.
The film starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison, Nicholas Hoult as Nikola Tesla, and Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse, made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival two years ago.
The trailer features Edison, Westinghouse and Tesla duke it out in what would be known as “the war of the currents.”
“This is a battle of the greatest minds of America,” Edison says. Westinghouse adds, “If you want to be remembered, it’s simple: Shoot a president. But if you prefer to have what I call a legacy, you leave the world a better place than you found it.”
The historical drama was directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon from a script by Michael Mitnick.
The Current War will start playing for audiences in October.

]]>After scoring a total of 15 nominations, Killing Eve managed to win three of them by the end of the night. In addition to coming out victorious in the main category (best drama series), Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw won acting BAFTAs for their performances on the show.
This year’s BAFTA TV Awards ceremony took place on May 12, and it was hosted by Graham Norton. The list of notable winners also includes Benedict Cumberbatch (Patrick Melrose) and Ben Whishaw (A Very English Scandal).

]]>The Handmaid’s Tale star and Avengers: Endgame’s actor will star in the forthcoming Jane Campion-helmed film adapted from Thomas Savage’s novel.
The story follows brothers Phil (Cumberbatch) and George Burbank. The two brothers are joint owners of the biggest ranch in their Montana valley. When George secretly marries local widow Rose (Moss), an angry Phil wages a relentless war to destroy her by using her son Peter as a pawn.
“The Power of the Dog is a sublime novel that deserves a life on the big screen. I couldn’t stop thinking about the story, it really haunted me. The themes of masculinity, nostalgia and betrayal are an intoxicating mix,” Campion said. “It’s also rare to find a story where the themes, the plot and the characters build tension as they reveal each other and even the end is satisfying and unexpected. It will be the first time I’ve worked with a male lead, which is exciting. Phil is a charismatic and complex character who declares war on his brother’s new wife and her teenage son.”
The film is set to go into pre-production at the end of the year.

]]>According to multiple outlets, Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Firth will star in the feature titled 1917. They will star opposite the previously cast Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard).
Also starring are Andrew Scott, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Jamie Parker, Nabhaan Rizwan and Claire Duburcq.
The DreamWorks Pictures and Universal Pictures film is set to star shooting on April 1 on location in England and Scotland. According to Variety, the feature was given a limited release date of December 25, and then go wide on Jan. 10, 2020.
1917 will be directed by Mendes from a script co-written by himself with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Mendes is also producing alongside Pippa Harris, Jayne-Ann Tenggren and Callum McDougall.

“It’s a giant animated Satan. He turns up and we needed a performance that works. So we found a young British help that needed a lot of direction from Douglas… Benedict Cumberbatch,” announced Gaiman.
Good Omens follows the journey of demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale, who join their forces to prevent the apocalypse because they’ve gotten used to their cozy life on Earth. The show will launch on Amazon Prime on May 31, before airing on BBC Two.
It was previously announced that two-time Oscar winner Frances McDormand will appear on this series as the voice of God. Main cast of Good Omens includes David Tennant, Michael Sheen and Jon Hamm.

]]>The Illumination and Universal’s CG animated adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss holiday tale has done very well at the North American box office across 4,141 locations.
The Grinch is Illumination’s second Seuss story adaptation after 2012’s The Lorax, which opened to $70.2 million and totaled $348.8 million worldwide.
The film is the latest adaptation of the classic story, following 2000’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey. The Ron Howard helmed feature earned $55 million in its opening weekend and totaled $345 million worldwide.
Voicing the titular character from Seuss’ 1957 story is Benedict Cumberbatch. The voice cast also includes Rashida Jones, Kenan Thompson, Angela Lansbury, Cameron Seely, and Pharrell Williams.
Coming at number 2 is the Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody starring Rami Malek as the iconic rock band’s frontman. The film took in another $29 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to $981.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Overlord and The Girl in the Spider’s Web are projected to battle it out for third place, each earning around $9 million.
