]]>The novel from Megan Abbott explores the themes of friendship, sexuality, competition, murder and power through the world of high school cheerleading. But Abbott and Gina Fattore, the creative team behind the adaptation, opted to make it a coming-of-age drama rather than a crime series.
“We were always much more interested in the ‘internalities’ of adolescence, rather than the things that technology or social media change. You date yourself so quickly if you focus too much [on the latter], so we really tried to focus on the elements of being a young woman with feelings of yearning, the desire for more experience, that sense of wanting things that are just beyond your reach, and the feeling that you have power but also being thrown into situations where you’re suddenly aware of your powerlessness,” Abbott told Variety.
“I have told coming-of-age stories on so many shows; it’s really my favorite kind of show. I looked at the book in that way and saw instantly the chance to make the first season really a classic coming-of-age story about a relationship with an older person that changes your life,” Fattore added.
“Sometimes that’s a romantic relationship, but sometimes it’s not, and in this case it’s a mentor relationship. That territory felt perfectly applicable to TV.”
Dare Me premiered on USA on December 29th.

]]>The actress told EW that even though this isn’t the first time she’s received Emmy nominations, this time, as the producer, it feels much more personal. She added that when producing it’s really about being on the inside of something so she can’t help but feel different.
Moss loves it when fans get personal as well, hearing their reactions and thoughts about the first season.
“Having the outside perspective is really moving and gratifying and also really fun. It’s really fun for me to hear people’s questions and thoughts and to hear if they are Team Nick or Team Luke and I eat it all up. I love that stuff. It’s very fun for me because it feels personal and I have my own opinions about things, too. I feel like a fan as well. I’m asked a lot which team I’m on but I never say.”
When asked about what fans can expect from the second season, Moss replied that even though she has just read the outline for the first episode, she can say that “[it]’s insane!… There is literally no way that anyone can guess what happens. You can try, but you won’t do it. It’s incredible. We’re really looking to blow people away, and we have every intention to break [the story] open and go even further in all directions. We have no intention of doing anything else than being even more balls to the wall than we were in season 1.”

So, at the moment, I don’t think I have another story for this world and I’m not sure that will change, really. So, I think it’s probably goodbye for good.”
While it looks like the end for Broadchurch, Chibnall will be keeping busy as he is replacing Steve Moffat on Doctor Who as showrunner. Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker will be joining him as a new character on Doctor Who.
When asked why he won’t take Broadchurch abroad, he said that many have suggested that in the past. “I think wherever David Tennant and Olivia Colman might wish to spend a few months of their year… Yeah, Hawaii could be good. France. New Zealand. I’m sure you’d have eager ears from some of the cast!”
