The Billboard Music Awards returned to celebrate the best music of 2023 on Sunday night, and the list of winners is truly an embarrassment of riches. The country singer Morgan Wallen led the way with 11 wins, followed by the pop icon Taylor Swift with 10 awards.

Swift had to beat tough competition in Drake, Wallen, SZA, and Luke Combs to be named the top artist at this year’s ceremony. Both Swift and Drake brought their career totals to 39 wins at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, setting a new record for most awards won by a single artist.

Swift wasn’t able to pick up her awards in person because she’s currently busy touring across South America, but she took a moment to tune in via video and thank her passionate fanbase in her acceptance speech.

“I’m talking to the fans specifically. None of this happens without you. The Billboards base everything off of what you are listening to and what you’re passionate about, and I’m so honored that this year you made The Eras Tour so magical,” said Swift.

As for Wallen, he walked away with 11 awards, including top male artist, top Billboard 200 album for One Thing at the Time, and top Hot 100 song for “Last Night”. Drake collected five accolades, and SZA and Zach Bryan were right behind with four each.

Drake knocked it out of the park with his latest album For All the Dogs, and he’s now reaping the fruits of his labor. The rapper’s new LP made quite a splash on the charts in the U.S. this week, topping both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100, and setting several records along the way.

For All the Dogs became Drake’s 13th album in the US, with 402,000 album-equivalent units earned – with only Jay-Z (14) and The Beatless (19) still ahead of him. Its hit song “First Person Shooter” ft. J. Cole hit No. 1 on the Billboards Hot 100 chart, becoming Drake’s 13th track to do so. All 23 songs from this album made it to the Hot 100 this week, bringing his total to a record-breaking 320 entries.

Drake tied Michael Jackson’s record for most No. 1 songs among solo male artists, with Rihanna (14), Mariah Carey (19), and The Beatles (20) still ahead of them. He’ll have to go a long way to surpass them, but this is not his priority right now, since he decided to take a break from music for about a year due to health problems.

“I need to focus on my health, first and foremost — and I’ll talk about that soon enough. Nothing crazy, but just like, you know, I want people to be healthy in life, and I’ve been having the craziest problems for years with my stomach,” said Drake during his radio show Table for One on SiriusXM’s Sound 42.

Another Billboard Music Awards ceremony is behind us and it gave top honors to one of the biggest breakout stars of the past year. Olivia Rodrigo topped the list of winners with a total of seven awards, followed by Drake with five.

Rodrigo was named the top new artist and top female artist, but she also managed to collect the awards for the top Hot 100 artist, top streaming songs artist, top radio songs artist, top Billboard 200 Global artist, and top Billboard 200 album with Sour.

She didn’t have such a great showing in the song categories, where she lost most of her nominations for “Good 4 U” to “Stay” by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber including the top Hot 100 song, top streaming song, and top Billboard Global 200 song.

As for Drake, he managed to beat the likes of Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd to win the biggest award of the night—the top artist. He won five trophies this year, bringing his total to 34 awards and cementing his status as the most-awarded artist in BBMA history.

The 2022 Billboard Music Awards were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 15 with Sean “Diddy” Combs serving as a host.

This year’s Billboard Music Awards were all about Drake!

The Canadian rap star walked away with a total of 12 awards at the end of the night and used his acceptance speeches to thank everyone from his collaborators to Arya Stark.

Drake came out victorious in all of the major categories, including top artist, top Billboard 200 album and top Hot 100 artist thanks to his chart-topping double album Scorpion.

“It was a really lengthy album, so it’s a lot of people to mention, but thank you to everybody who gave me their time, their energy, stayed away from their family and friends while we were trying to complete this,” said Drake in his acceptance speech.

His domination of this year’s Billboard Music Awards brought Drake to a career total of 27 BMAs, making him the top award recipient in the history of this ceremony.

The list of music stars that managed to land Las Vegas residencies is rapidly increasing with Lady Gaga, Aerosmith, and Backstreet Boys being just some of the names that will bring their shows to the Sin City.

As it turns out, Drake might follow their footsteps really soon. During a recent live show at XS Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas, the 32-year-old told the audience that he will be at the same club “all year” and that they will have a “lotta chances” to see him in the future.

“Vegas! When I came back, I thought it’d be back at T-Mobile Arena or some (stuff),” Drake told the audience according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “But I’ll be back here at XS all year. You’ll have a lotta chances to see me.”

Sources close to Wynn Las Vegas confirmed that there are in fact negotiations with Drake about the possible residency at XS. According to them, “God’s Plan” star will most likely ink a deal for 12 shows over two years.

This would be another successful business venture for Drake, who has a net-worth well more than $100 million. He reportedly received $2 million for doing a 30-minutes show at XS, so the residency will most likely be lucrative as well.
