Jacob Elordi is off of another amazing year after starring in Saltburn and Priscilla, and his future is looking bright. The Australian actor is circling the role of Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s iconic horror novel.

Elordi is replacing Andrew Garfield, who decided to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts after the production was pushed in the face of dual strikes in Hollywood last year. He joins Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac, who’ll lead the project in the role of Victor Frankenstein, alongside Pearl’s Mia Goth and the two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.

The supporting cast will also include Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), Lars Mikkelsen (The Witcher), David Bradley (Game of Thrones), and Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth).

Del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation marks the visionary director’s latest collaboration with Netflix after this streaming giant distributed his Oscar-winning animated film Pinocchio.

2023 has been a career-changing year for Elordi, who played key roles in Emerald Fennell’s psychological thriller Saltburn and Sofia Coppola’s biopic Priscilla. He’s currently attached to dramas On Swift Horses and Oh, Canada, in addition to being set to return as Nate Jacobs in the third season of HBO’s hit teen series Euphoria.

The film is based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel of the same name. This isn’t the first time the story is getting a feature adaptation – Nightmare Alley was previously made into a film in 1947 starring actor Tyrone Power.

The story follows an ambitious young con-man who joins a traveling carnival. But after the young man teams up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is, she ends up out-manipulating the manipulator.

Nightmare Alley is Cooper’s first role since his Oscar-nominated performance in A Star is Born. You can see Blanchett next in Richard Linklater’s Where’d You Go Bernadette?

Leonardo DiCaprio worked with some of the most renowned directors in Hollywood, and it seems he’s getting ready to add another name to the list. Oscar-winning actor will reportedly star in Guillermo del Toro’s new movie Nightmare Alley.

This promising project tells the story of a corrupt conman who joins forces with an equally mischievous female psychiatrist. Their elaborate scheme eventually goes sideways after this femme fatale proves to be an even more masterful manipulator than her partner in crime.

Nightmare Alley is based on William Lindsay Gresham novel of the same name, and it already spawned one successful adaptation back in 1947. Instead of making a direct remake of this classic, Del Toro intends to offer his own take on Gresham’s intriguing book.

DiCaprio is in negotiations to portray an ambitious conman Stanton Carlisle, but he’s yet to officially accept the part. Oscar-winner has always been extremely picky when it comes to his roles, and we haven’t seen him on the big screen ever since The Revenant. He’ll finally make a comeback this year in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, alongside Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

Multiple outlets confirm that Guillermo del Toro has been tapped to serve as writer and director on J.J. Abrams’ Zanbato.

The Oscar-winning director revealed Friday that he’s on board the project, which has actually been in development for six years, but was kept successfully under wraps.

“This has been in development for the last 6 years or so!  Thanks to JJ maximum security system, it had not leaked.  We are still developing steadily. Stay tuned here for news on which project SHOOTS next,” he shared on Twitter.

Very little is known about the project, however, Collider, who was first to report the news, confirms that the feature centers around a young girl with lethal fighting skills. And Del Toro did add that the protagonist isn’t a ninja, “But… there are Ninjas in it.”

Del Toro has several projects currently in development including Pinocchio for Netflix and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark at CBS Films.

Guillermo del Toro is set to make his animated feature film directing debut.

The Shape of Water Oscar-winning director is going animated. Del Toro is teaming up with Netflix finally make his “lifelong passion project” happen — Pinocchio.

Back in 2012 del Toro told Entertainment Weekly: “In a strange way, two of the stories that fascinate me the most are kind of related, which is Frankenstein and Pinocchio. They are both about creatures that are created and then get lost in a world they don’t understand. And they are both journeys of understanding, and journeys of evolution of the spirit. When we started working on Pinocchio we knew very clearly that we wanted to make it different in the sense that it is not just a fairy tale but a fairy tale that actually moves you and emotionally affects you. It deals with ideas that are relevant to everyone, to all mankind in a way.”

The official news that del Toro will be helming a new stop-motion Pinocchio was announced by the streaming giant Monday.

According to Vareity, the stop-motion musical version of the classic will be set in 1930s Italy when fascism was on the rise. The iconic Disney movie was itself an adaptation of the 1883 fairy tale written by Italian author Carlo Collodi.

“No art form has influenced my life and my work more than animation and no single character in history has had as deep of a personal connection to me as Pinocchio,” said del Toro in a statement. “In our story, Pinocchio is an innocent soul with an uncaring father who gets lost in a world he cannot comprehend. He embarks on an extraordinary journey that leaves him with a deep understanding of his father and the real world. I’ve wanted to make this movie for as long as I can remember.”

He continued: “What I’m going for is a PG-13 — more adolescent, more teenage. I hesitate to say just darker because it’s not just darker. It is a tale that is adapted to a more complex reality, more complex ethical questions. It’s more a tale for youth than a tale for just kids.”
