The cancelation of Minx comes as a shocker since the production of the second season is wrapping up this week. HBO’s partner Lionsgate TV will look for a new home for the comedy series, led by Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson.

“We have enjoyed a good partnership with HBO Max and are working closely to find a new opportunity for Minx, so current, and new viewers, can continue this journey with us,” reads Lionsgate TV’s statement.

Minx isn’t the only show to fall victim to HBO Max’s slate review. The streamer recently removed Gordita Chronicles from its platform, and later announced their first original scripted series Love Life, led and executive produced by Anna Kendrick, suffered the same fate.

Another shocker came with the removal of Westworld and The Nevers from HBO Max, but they’ll likely resurface on other platforms. Westworld was recently canceled after four seasons, and HBO’s latest decision comes as a surprise since it’s one of its biggest hits of the last decade.

Multiple outlets report that the premium cabler has picked up Westworld for a fourth season. News of the renewal of the sci-fi drama comes ahead of the conclusion of season 3, which debuted March 15. 

HBO programming president Casey Bloys said in a statement, “From the Western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”

A release date and episode count have yet to be announced.

Just because the world is corrupt inside, doesn’t mean it can’t be smothered over and pretty. We wanted to find a version of dystopia that we hadn’t seen before,” Nolan said at Comic-Con.

Westworld has been a huge success, receiving 42 Emmy nominations and the second season won three Emmys.

TV always suited him better, and he decided to make a comeback with Hulu’s drama The Path, starring Hugh Dancy and Michelle Monaghan. It was canceled after three seasons, and Paul immediately started landing roles in new projects, including the upcoming season of Westworld.

A rep for HBO confirmed the shutdown in a statement. “Due to nearby wildfires, Westworld stopped production earlier today and will resume filming as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

According to ET, thousands of Southern Californians have fled their homes as a huge fire spread through part of Ventura County. The fire, which grown to 50,000 acres by Tuesday afternoon, was mainly fueled by strong Santa Ana winds and expected to last until Thursday.

Westworld actor Jeffrey Wright posted on social media about the fires on Tuesday.

“Got an unexpected and unfortunate day off owing to the #CreekFire & #RyeFire,” he tweeted. “Be safe, folks.”

The western thriller isn’t the only series that has shut down due to fires. Production on CBS’s S.W.A.T. has also been temporarily suspended.

“Due to a medical emergency involving a performer in a recurring role on season two of Westworld, filming on one of the two units has been temporarily suspended,” HBO said in a statement on Thursday. “The cast member was not on set when this occurred, and out of respect for the performer’s privacy, we have no additional details to share, other than that everyone at Westworld sincerely hopes for a quick recovery.”

The second season of the hit series is expected to premiere in spring of 2018. There’s no news yet if the medical situation will delay its debut.

Westworld has earned 22 nominations on this year’s Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series. It won four trophies in crafts categories, including VFX, but lost of the marquee awards. Its regular ensemble includes Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, James Marsden, Jeffrey Wright and Ed Harris.
